Acquisition of Farmexim and Help Net in Romania completed

The PHOENIX group has received unconditional approval from the European Commission to acquire the Romanian pharmaceutical wholesaler Farmexim S.A. and the Help Net Farma S.A. nationwide pharmacy chain. With Romania, the healthcare provider is entering a completely new market. PHOENIX signed the purchase agreement in April 2018. The acquisition became effective on July 31, 2018.

Farmexim is one of the largest pharmaceutical wholesalers in the country with 800 employees and ten national distribution centres. The pharmacy chain Help Net operates approximately 220 pharmacies and has 1,600 employees. Both companies are sizeable players in the pharmaceutical wholesale and retail business in Romania. "The companies match perfectly with our business model as an integrated healthcare provider. From a standing start, we are achieving a good position in an attractive national market for us", said Oliver Windholz, CEO of PHOENIX Pharma SE, after merger control clearance.
