The appropriate competition authorities have unconditionally approved the acquisition of the Slovakian company SUNPHARMA by the PHOENIX group. The PHOENIX group had announced the acquisition of SUNPHARMA back in January 2015 – subject to approval by the antitrust authorities. The company operates 42 pharmacies in Slovakia and eight in the Czech Republic.
SUNPHARMA pharmacies are located in prime areas such as shopping centres. The parties have agreed to keep the financial details of the transaction confidential.
The PHOENIX group has already had many years of success in the pharmaceutical wholesale business in both Slovakia and the Czech Republic and offers a wide range of services to the pharmaceutical industry as well. PHOENIX operates 115 of its own pharmacies in the Czech Republic under the BENU brand. The acquisition of SUNPHARMA, the number 2 in the Slovakian pharmacy market, enables the PHOENIX group to further expand its position in the pharmacy retail business.
Oliver Windholz, Chief Executive Officer of the PHOENIX group, said: “With the successful acquisition of SUNPHARMA, we are taking another important step forward towards our goal of being the best integrated healthcare provider – wherever we are.”
